1. Read the stitching

3. Feel — and weigh — the materials

Real premium sneakers use quality leather, mesh and foam, and they feel like it. Stiff, plasticky, or oddly light materials rarely lie. Many genuine models also have a characteristic weight and cushioning feel; a fake that's noticeably too light or too hard is telling on itself. Trust your hands here.

4. Trust your nose

An underrated test: smell them. A strong chemical or glue odour usually points to the cheap adhesives factories use when they're rushing out replicas. Authentic pairs smell like… shoes — leather, rubber, foam. If it smells like a hardware store, be suspicious.

5. Check the small details

The details are where fakes fall apart: the shape and depth of the logo, the font on the size tag, the pattern of the outsole tread, the way the tongue is stitched on. Pull up official photos of the exact model and compare side by side. Counterfeiters copy the big shapes but miss the little ones.

6. Sanity-check the price and the seller

If a hyped, sold-out pair is being offered brand-new at a suspiciously low price, that's usually the entire story right there. Real deals exist, but a price that's too good to be true almost always is. Look at the seller's history, their photos (real pair or stock image?), and whether they'll answer specific questions.
